With more than 20 years of experience supporting children and families, Dana McAllister has dedicated her career to helping children develop the language, literacy, and learning skills they need to thrive.
A Child and Youth Worker, Communicative Disorders Assistant, and author, Dana's experience spans the earliest stages of language development through adolescence. Her career has included roles in schools, children's treatment centres, early intervention, and post-secondary education. She has received professional training in and delivered an Orton-Gillingham–based structured literacy program, bringing that experience to her individualized literacy intervention. Along the way, she has partnered with families, educators, and speech-language professionals to support children with a wide range of learning strengths and needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Dana has taught future Communicative Disorders Assistants at the college level, sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation of professionals.
Dana believes children make their greatest progress when they feel safe, supported, and free to learn without pressure. That philosophy shapes every program at Next Page Literacy, where evidence-informed instruction is paired with a calm, encouraging environment that builds both skills and confidence.
Whether working with toddlers building early literacy foundations or school-aged children requiring structured reading intervention, Dana's goal is simple: to help every child experience success while supporting families every step of the way.
Our Approach
Reading difficulties can affect much more than academics. They can impact confidence, family routines, and the way a child sees themselves. That's why my approach is built around evidence-based instruction delivered in a supportive, family-centred environment.
One-to-one instruction follows the Barton Reading & Spelling System, an Orton-Gillingham based program grounded in the science of reading. Lessons are systematic, explicit, and carefully sequenced, allowing children to build lasting skills one step at a time.
Alongside individual intervention, Next Page Literacy also offers small, play-based group programs designed to foster early literacy skills through engaging, developmentally appropriate activities. Whether a child is just beginning their literacy journey or needs structured intervention, my goal is the same: to help every child grow in skill, confidence, and a love of learning.
